Van Gorkom Felt-lined Snow Boots: Yukon Boots, Perfect for Cold Winters
The Van Gorkom felt lined all weather Yukon snow boots are perfect for mild to extreme cold conditions. They are appropriately named "Yukon" boots to describe the sort of cold and wintry conditions they can withstand, keeping those who wear them warm, safe and dry.
Felt-lined Yukon Boots by Van Gorkom: A Name You can Trust
Charles Van Gorkom is well known internationally for his custom made hiking boots. His craftsmanship and careful attention to detail have set him apart from the rest. No matter what sort of frigid conditions you might need to endure, your Yukon snow boots are more than equal to the challenge. Unlike many other Yukon Boots, Van Gorkom felt lined boots are not made of rubber.
Rubber has a tendency of causing feet to sweat due to condensation. Condensation freezes, layer by layer, until your feet are encased in ice. These Van Gorkom boots are all leather with no rubber around the foot except for the insulating neoprene foam sole. This means that not only will your fit be more comfortable and warm, but your feet will also breathe and stay dry.
Felt-lined Yukon Boots - The Details
The Van Gorkom Yukon Boots are handmade of full grain leather. They are waxed, oiled and durable. Not only are they waterproof, but they also will keep your feet warm down to 40 below. They are lightweight, flexible and include the removable felt liner. The felt liner is of the latest warmth technology using poly fibers of a diameter to trap and reflect the foot's natural infrared. They are warm and light as native mukluks, but tougher and more durable. The Yukon Boots are 14 inches high and can be resoled and repaired, should that ever be needed.
Van Gorkom Felt lined all weather Yukon Boots have:
77% white polypropylene 18% wool 5% miscellaneous fibers bonded to a polyethylene metallized film
Felt-lined Yukon Boots - A comparison with Ugg Boots and Mukluks
For those who are familiar with Ugg boots or Mukluks, Yukon boots are similar in function, more durable. Though more masculine in appearance, men and women both love them. Instead of sheepskin, as found in Ugg boots and Mukluks, Van Gorkom felt lined Yukon snow boots are made of full grain leather. They have a soft, flexible feel with soles that give the foot and body support and a warm felt lining to properly protect the foot and calf from extreme cold and wet conditions.
What else can You Tell me about Van Gorkom Yukon Snow Boots?
The felt lined Van Gorkom Yukon boots cost only $500. They provide excellent traction and can be ordered in men and women's full sizes, as the design is size forgiving. The leather is soft, thick and brown. Many feel they are an even better fit than Ugg boots or Mukluks, due to the lacing and ankle strap. Putting on a pair of Van Gorkom Yukon boots will be like nothing you've ever known. Unlike some boots that are tight and restrict circulation causing cold feet, these lightweight boots will let your feet breathe while providing a toasty, warm experience.
How to care for your Van Gorkom Yukon Boots
Leather takes constant care. You have to enjoy it to do it right. These boots are ready to go, but after every couple of outings, they will need to be thoroughly waxed again.
Use wax rather than any oil based product. Sno-seal is good or one of the Nik-wax products. They are bee¢s wax based and that is good.
Never dry them in front of radiant heat: fireplace, stove, campfire, etc. ---this will RUIN the leather. Radiant heat will also shrink the soles.
Warm forced air is the best. A heating vent, or hair dryer works to both dry them and soak in the wax. Put layers of wax on then soak it in with a hair dryer on low.
If the leather ever does get dry and stiff, you may use a little boot oil, but keep it off the edges of the soles as it will likely swell the rubber and disolve the glue. Not good. Use just enough oil to restore original suppleness, then go back to soaking in the wax.
These boots are made to be resoled, and can be re-sewn everywhere by hand. They were designed for serious cold weather survival.
